On our regular Wednesday feed night (the 23rd) we had a giant Christmas meal for our regular clients. About 200 meals of turkey, ham, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, rolls, and pie were served!
We were blessed with amazing worship from Tom Pawloski and an amazing puppet show with a Christmas message from our beloved Reda Bell Stroup.
Of course there were gifts for everyone as well as with hygiene items, clothes, and handwarmers.
Our second Christmas celebration was the next night, Christmas Eve. This year we extended a special invitation to families with children in community who might not have much of a Christmas without a bit of extra help. Dozens of families signed up ahead of time. They arrived around 5:30 and we’re seated to the joyful sounds of Christmas carols.
The kids got hot cocoa to warm their tummies. We then served them the same wonderful dinner menu that we had served the day before .
Reda then presented her heartwarming puppet show. After the message each of the children received a goodie bag.
Then, the families were called to pick out gifts one at a time.
The parents were escorted to an office where all of our new toys were unwrapped and in age groups. Parents each got a wonderful gift for each child, a children’s book, and some clothes.
We wanted the kids to understand the blessing of giving, not just “getting”, on our savior ‘ s birthday. So the kids too were escorted to an office set up just for them. It was filled with gifts for them to choose for their parents and grandparents. Each child was helped to pick out a gift to wrap and place under their tree for their adults.
We served around 300 meals – many of these were whole Christmas meals sent home with the families to reheat on Christmas. So no food was leftover or went to waste.
Both nights were wildly successful, fun and inspiring. This was in large part due to our many wonderful, fantastic, dedicated and giving volunteers. Just the cooking took many of us four days to fully prep. On top of that were all of the other parts that came together because of the love and caring of out invaluable volunteers.
Thanks to one and all!!!
