The Beginnings of Our Daily Bread Ministries
Hearing God’s voice
Approximately 6 years ago (in 2004), the Lord spoke to my heart saying, “feed my sheep.” I started obeying God’s command by giving out sandwiches, drinks and food to the homeless in the community. -Mike Justice
Wilson Street Ministries
The Lord led us to Wilson Street and we fed and held gospel services Monday, Wednesday, and Friday nights for about 4 months.
Finding A Home
After the ministry experienced many trials and tribulations including several feeding locations, financial challenges, difficulties with city and county regulations, the good Lord guided us to a permanent home at 1135 Harrold Street in Crescent City. The Lord has blessed us with one year at this current location January 12th, 2010.
In September of 09, we were blessed to be able to increase services from feeding 3 nights per week, to offering meals and gospel services 5 nights per week (Monday through Friday at 6pm). We also offer Freedom Now drug, alcohol, and life recovery classes Mon, Wed and Fri at 3pm. Our Daily Bread Ministries also offers clothing, hygiene kits, sleeping bags, blankets, tents and other needed supplies. In addition, during severe weather we have operated an emergency shelter.
Mortgage and Renovations
Our Daily Bread Ministries is facing a crisis this past year as our lease expires April 13th. The county is also demanding that we make major repairs in order to continue services. We are believing in faith that our God shall provide for the present need. As of May 25, 2009, we have raised $10,000 towards the purchase and repair of the building, but still need $115,000 for the building, and at least $40,000 towards repairs.
Long Term Ministry Goals
- Renovating our building to become a fully functioning mission offering a temporary shelter, a long term discipleship program, providing shower services, laundry assistance.
- Starting a women’s mission offering housing and discipleship
- Extending the ministry of Our Daily Bread Ministries to other communities who have no gospel feeding ministries
- Offer community assistance through volunteer work/job training program
